Contemporary Reblog: Crawford & Son

reblog of: http://www.underconsideration.com/artofthemenu/archives/crawford_son.php

This is another menu design which is a nice idea inspiration for the upcoming food truck ID project (especially the menu portion). Like the previous entry I posted, this menu is very minimalistic in tits visuals yet it makes up for that minimalism with elegant almost subtle lines that are extremely elegant. Everything seems to have a logic as far as place or layout is concerned.

I really enjoy the mockups because not only do they show the designs in a context for size but also they reflect the tone of the restaurant. And I think that is something a few of my class mates were lacking in some of the previous projects because they just downloaded the ones they could find but they did not fully embody the tone of their designs.

Contemporary Reblog: Teatre Principal

Reblog of: http://www.aisleone.net/2017/04/17/atlas-teatre-principal/

This post really relates to our museum identity assignment. It really illustrates the advertisement portion of the assignment can applied as far as posters, book and bags can be made with the same united identity while still constraining to the design ID rules for this particular entity.

For me this is a fasinating approach. I mean we spoke briefly about Paula Scher and how she created an ID of text of varying horizontal/vertical text directions. This ID takes the text and slices it in half, showing just enough so people can identify what it says while still being cleverly masked. Normally the slicing the text in half is a little risky but the design group seems to have found the right midpoint to make it work. I doubt I would want to use this approach myself but I appreciate the work done to make it. Thus I find this post fasinating and certainly this would have been a nice resource for that previous assignment.

Contemporary Reblog: Black Cat

reblog of: http://www.underconsideration.com/artofthemenu/archives/black_cat.php

After my second menu post I was not expecting to do another of these reblog focusing on a menu but this is just perfect. I love the idea of this menu. I mean it is just perfect for this particular class. I mean in Graphic Design studio we had to make a timeline of items using just parts of letters. And this would just add to that assignment or at least inspire other students. Because in their menus they could create icons of the food in question. These little icons would be adorable and would make the cutest menu.

The icon of the cat is really a nice vector and totally fits the typefaces they used. Also the drink coasters are just gorgeously designed. I can't stop looking at this menu. I mean the first one I was sort of impressed with because it was minimalistic and the other other previous menu was pretty good too but this one just takes the cake. I want to make something like this one. Now that would make for a nice portfolio piece that would be right up my alley.

Contemporary Reblog: Milwaukee Burger Co.

reblog of: http://www.underconsideration.com/artofthemenu/archives/milwaukee_burger_company.php

I think this is a really nice design of a menu. I kind of almost wish I had seen it when we had started our food truck assignment. I mean it doesn't really fit the tone I am setting for my designs but the layout is rather interesting. The use of type as the main visual is really interesting to me. I mean it is harder to read but it makes me want to open it up and see what's inside which is the whole point of these menus is to attack the senses of the viewer so they pick it up.

The type in these designs is sleek and almost new age-y. I love that the visuals are merely used as support mechanisms for the type itself. They made a lot of nice design choices.
